Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-based approach that draws from attachment theory. It is based on an understanding that human beings are hard-wired to connect with others emotionally and relationally. EFT helps couples create lasting connection, safety, and trust in their relationship, even after many years of conflict, disconnection, and betrayals.
Based on decades of clinical practice and clinical research, EFT has undergone rigorous studies with positive results. EFT is being used in different settings, including private practices, hospital clinics, and university training centres and with different kinds of couples, including partners who experience depression, chronic illness, and post-traumatic stress disorders. According to the research, 90% of couples who received EFT couples therapy showed significant improvement in their relationship and 3 out of 4 couples moved from distress to recovery in 15-20 sessions, helping them to feel happier and more intimate in their relationship.
Many couples come to therapy due to relationship distress. They often find themselves caught in a repeated argument over a particular problem or issues. This circular pattern that they experience over and over again, often leaves them feeling distant, hurt, fearful, angry, sad, and alone.
This is where EFT couples therapy can help!
A trained EFT couples therapist will provide you and your partner a safe space to share your thoughts, feelings, and concerns. She can help you to unravel what is happening between the both of you and to slow things down in a way that will make it possible for new conversations to occur.
